Ottawa Senators wins 2-1 against the in-form New Jersey Devils on Devils' home ice
The first game of Tuesday was played at the Prudential Center as the home team, New Jersey Devils, was up against the struggling Ottawa Senators.
The game was more important for Devils as they needed the win to close the gap on the eighth and final play-off spot.
Senators, on the other hand, had nothing to lose and went full out on the attack.
The first period of the game didn’t see any goals but Senators scored the lone goal of the second period to lead as the final period begun.
Even though Devils scored early in the second period, Senators scored once again to win the game by 2-1.
Erik Condra, winger of Senators, was the star of the game as he scored two goals.
Both teams made a decent start to the game and there were a few shots on goal early on. Despite the strong attacks at the start of the game, no goals were scored early. The period moved on with both teams firing shots on goal every now and then.
The period ended with both teams making shots on goal right till the end but the scores was still deadlocked on 0-0. During the course of the period Devils made 7 shots on goal while Senators made 8 shots on goal.
The second period started off with Senators coming out strong on the offence and defence. The away side constructed some brilliant attacks right from the start which saw them scoring in the fifth minute through Erik Condra from a well placed flick shot to
get into the lead.
Devils got better with the passage of time and came across several scoring chances but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Their shots and passing got better as the period neared its end. However, no further goals were scored as the period ended with Senators leading 1-0. During the period, Senators made 5 shots on goal while Devils made 14 shots on goal.
The final period saw Devils making a decent started. They managed to capitalize from the start and scored in the fifth minute through Patrik Elias from a quick fired shot to level the scores.
Things slowed down after the goal but the teams had a few chances but they weren’t to score any goals. It looked as if the period would end with the scores still level.
However, Senators managed to score in the 18th minute through Erik Condra from a simple tip in shot to get into the lead.
The period and the game ended with Senators winning the game 2-1 in the end. During the course of the period, Senators made 8 shots on goal while Devils made 11 shots on goal.
