Ottawa Senators wins 4-1 against Florida Panthers as it hosted Ottawa at the HSBC Arena
Florida Panthers played host to Ottawa Senators at the HSBC Arena this Thursday which Senators won by 4-1, comfortably in the end. Both teams are out of the playoff cut but needed the win in order to show that they have something left in them to challenge
teams this season.
Both teams fired shots on goal right from the start which saw quite a few easy chances coming each team’s way. However, it was Senators that scored the lone goal of the period to get into the lead with the period ending on the same score.
The second period began with Senators scoring the first goal to double the lead but Panthers also scored a goal to cut the trail by a goal. The period saw Senators laying down the hammer and scoring twice to get into a comfortable position.
The final 20 minutes of play saw Panthers coming up with quite a few shots on goal but neither of the teams scored and the game ended with the Senators winning by 4-1.
Colin Greening, Senators’ centre, was named the star of the game as he scored two goals and came up with two assists.
Senators constructed some brilliant plays at the start of the game that saw the last placed team in the league scoring the first goal in the sixth minute. The goal was scored by Nick Foligno from a brilliant backhand shot.
Panthers created several shots on goal during the period too but it was unable to score any goals as the period ended with Senators leading 1-0.
During the course of the period, Senators made 8 shots on goal while Panthers made 11 shots on goal.
The second 20 minutes began with Senators coming out strong and scoring in the third minute through Colin Greening to double its lead. Panthers managed to score its first goal in the seventh minute through Michal Repik’s brilliant backhand shot.
Senators didn’t take long to answer back and scored in the very same minute through Greening once again to regain the two-goal advantage. Senators completed the dominating performance in the period with another goal in the 15th minute which was
scored by Filip Kuba from a powerful strike.
The period ended with Senators leading 4-1 in the end, making 9 shots on goal while Panthers made 15 shots on goal.
The final period came across six shots on goal by Senators and 12 shots by Panthers. The period and the game ended with Senators winning by 4-1.
