Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson brings in Senators, Logan Couture picked last -NHL All-Star Game
The 2012 Molson Canadian National Hockey League (NHL) All-Star Player Fantasy Draft was certainly one of the most exciting events in a number of years since this time around, as fans witnessed a lot of variety in the selection of players while a number of
them were out due to various injuries.
Sidney Crosby and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins could not make it due to concussion and shoulder injuries respectively, but the stage was set and the fans were thrilled as Ottawa captain, Daniel Alfredsson, and Boston Bruins captain, Zdeno Chara, selected one-by-one
their players for the annual game.
Daniel Alfredsson kept the momentum high in Ottawa, where the All-Star Game is to take place on Sunday, January 29, 2012, by racking in as many Senators and Swedish players as he could in his team.
He picked defenseman, Erik Karlsson, with his first pick, which was something he had already hinted at doing in previous interviews. Alfredsson also picked up Ottawa centre, Jason Spezza, and later on selected Senators’ forward, Milan Michalek.
Alfredsson was side-by-side to his assistant captain, New York Rangers’ veteran goalie and fellow Swede, Henrik Lundqvist.
Surprisingly, rookie superstar of the San Jose Sharks, Logan Couture, was picked last by Alfredsson, which was something he took as being funny and having no control over.
"I'm not sure. I don't even know if it's happened before," Couture said, after he was the final pick. "I've never been picked last for something, whether it's for class or a game outdoors or anything like that. Growing up, I was always one of the more athletic
kids. To get picked last -- it didn't really happen at all."
Being in an Eastern Conference dominated area, Couture knew that coming from the West would obviously be a disadvantage for him being picked up.
"I can't take that personally," Couture said. "I'm a young guy who plays on the West Coast. When I came in, I knew it was a possibility."
As the teams are all set to go head-to-head on Sunday, the fans are also ready to witness one of the most spectacular events of the season.
