“We have had a pretty solid 2012 so far so we want to finish on a winning note,” Gibson told reporters in Barbados before the team's departure for Bangladesh on Sunday.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 led Caribbean cricket team is set to play two Tests, five One Day Internationals and a one-off T20 against Bangladesh, during an almost a month long tour to the subcontinent, starting on November 13.
West Indies have played eight Tests in 2012 so far, winning two and losing four, while the remaining two ended in draws. They lost the three-match home series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 by the same margin.
However, they returned home to whitewash http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 last month – their first World Cup triumph since 1979.
Gibson said that the aim is now to rub off their impressive T20 form on the Test format of the game, and break into the top five in Tests, over the next twelve months.
“The aim is to find ways of moving up the (Test rankings) table,” shared Gibson, a former Barbados cricketer, who also played two Tests and 15 One Day Internationals for the national team. “Because Bangladesh are below us, we will only be playing for two or three points. Our aim is to break into the top five in the next 12 months if possible,” he added further.
The West Indies cricket team is currently ranked No. 7 on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s Test rankings table, being led by the rampaging South Africans. New Zealand are ranked eighth while the Bengali Tigers, Windies’ opponents in the forthcoming two-Test series, find themselves at the bottom of the chart.
The two Test series between West Indies and Bangladesh gets underway in Mirpur, on November 13.
