Ottis Gibson backs West Indian batsmen to come good – Cricket News Update
West Indies head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358, backed West Indian batsmen to come good against England in the first game of the three match Test series, to be played at Lord’s from Thursday, May 17, 2012.
The head coach revealed that the Windies were on a low after being bowled out for 147 runs in the first innings of the second warm-up game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808, at Northampton.
Gibson further divulged that he intervened and tried to lift the morale of the side by pointing towards the tough conditions.
The ploy worked for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, as they bounced back in the second innings, scoring 390 runs, courtesy Kieran Powell, who scored a hundred.
Hoping that the team will bat in the Lord’s Test just as they did in the second innings, Gibson said, “They were a little bit disappointed after the first innings and I had to step in and say 'you shouldn't be disappointed' because
if we'd bowled first, in those conditions on the first day I believe we would have bowled them out for a similar score.”
“In the second innings, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieran-Omar-Akeem-Powell-c71441 played very well and got a hundred. Bravo, who'd been playing well for us for the last year-and-a-half, he got two half centuries.  The second innings was more like what we know we can do.”
West Indies batting order is quite fragile and the side has suffered a lot because of that. Apart from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390, the left-handed batsman who is currently at the top on International Cricket Council's Test rankings,
no one has done well with the bat recently.
There were suggestions that Chanderpaul, the veteran who generally bats at fifth or sixth spot, should move up to provide some stability to the top-order.
Gibson, in reply to that, said that the left-hander has performed well at his current position and the team would like him to play where he feels comfortable, however, the coach did not completely rule out the idea of Chanderpaul
moving higher up the order.
He said, “We've decided to leave it as it is at the moment but it's something we haven't completely ruled out.”
