http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358 lauds West Indies’ improved performances – Cricket News Update
West Indies’ coach Ottis Gibson expressed his satisfaction with the team’s recent performances, which have seen them claiming two straight series wins (T20I and ODI) against New Zealand, adding that he hoped they would continue to put up similar displays
in the future.
“Almost everyone put his hand up and put in a strong performance when it was required,” he said, referring to the latest 4-1 ODI series victory over the touring Black Caps. “As a team we are happy with the series results and we look to take the momentum
on from here.”
“In http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 - where we had pretty much the same side - we didn't do that well and questions were asked,” he added. “It was really good to see how the guys have returned home and answered those questions with some good performances.”
After putting up a competitive showing against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 earlier this year (although they did not manage to secure any series wins), the Windies were unable to carry a similar competitive streak into their tour of England. They lost the Test series 2-0 (3),
and also went on to lose the ODIs 2-0 (3), in addition to conceding a 7 wicket defeat in the only T20.
However, they made a spectacular comeback during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. The two-match T20I series played in Florida ended in a 2-0 victory for the Windies, and they followed it up with a 4-1 win in the ODI series – their
first one-day international series win against a Test-level opposition (other than http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045) since 2009.
The Windies won the first two ODIs of the series – by 9 wickets and 55 runs respectively – before the Kiwis attempted to make a comeback, clinching an 88-run win in the 3rd match of the series. However, they were not able to hold their own against
their hosts, and Darren Sammy’s men rounded off the series with a 24-run win in the 4th match, and a 20-run victory in the final.
Star players in the Windies’ line-up included http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869 (who won the Player of the
Series award, with 13 wickets, and an economy rate of 2.92). The hosts will be looking to put up a similar performance in the upcoming Test series against the Black Caps, due to commence at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua on July 25.
