The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 head coach, Ottis Gibson, on Sunday lavished praise on senior batsmen for taking the responsibility of scoring runs, after the inexperienced players on the Caribbean roster faltered against the formidable English attack
in the 1st Test at Lord’s.
"A lot was said before the start of the series about the inexperience of the side but the experienced players did their part today, [they] did their jobs," said Gibson while speaking to the media reporters at the post-day press conference
on Sunday, Day four of the opening Test between Windies and Poms.
"That makes a huge difference when our experienced players perform. We know we have some young players, who will come good, but the experienced players are leading from the front and that is what we need." said Gibson.
After West Indies’ raw top-order failed to score once again in the second innings of the series opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804 took the onus of stepping up for scoring. As the tourists were reeling at 65 for 4,
both the experienced batsmen notched up respective half-centuries during a 157-run fifth-wicket stand to propel the side to a second innings total of 345 on the fourth day of the Test on Sunday, setting a target of 191 for the hosts.
“Shiv [Chanderpaul] was outstanding, Marlon was good,” said Gibson, who was England’s bowling coach when the Windies toured them the previous time. “Ramdin was also very good. Sammy played a nice little cameo there, and all in all
those guys are taking on more and more of the responsibility for the totals," He added further.
Chanderpaul, who was the leading scorer in the visitors’ first innings with a painstaking 87, played another meticulous innings of 91, while Samuels scored 86. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 scored a quick 37
to fire the tourists to 345.
Admitting that they failed to execute the batting plan in their first innings, Gibson said that the side produced a much more disciplined batting performance in the second outing.
