Ottis Gibson, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 coach, has expressed that experienced players are extremely precious for his side and made it clear that he is ready to accept the middle-order batsman, Ramnaresh Sarwan, back in the side, despite all
the controversy attached to him in the recent past.
Sarwan, 32, last represented the Caribbean side in 2011 during the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. Since then, the right-handed batsman has not played any domestic cricket in the islands. However, the former West Indies captain remains an integral
part of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807, an English county.
Earlier in the season, in an interview to BBC, Sarwan slammed the West Indian coach for his inappropriate behavior towards the senior players and expressed that he is happy to be away from Caribbean cricket.
Gibson however, expressed that he never had any major differences with the middle-order batsman and is shocked at his statements. The former Test cricketer expressed that being the coach of the side, he always expects the players
to put in their best and is disappointed at Sarwan’s behavior.
"I've never had an issue with Sarwan. Never once in my three years here have I had an issue with Sarwan. I was very disappointed to hear the stuff that Sarwan said because I don't know where there was an issue. But I've always said
we can't go where we want to go without our experienced players," the coach said.
Sarwan has so far played 87 Tests and 173 One Day Internationals for West Indies, scoring more than 11 thousand runs and 19 hundreds at the ultimate level of the game.
Gibson, who is also a former Test cricketer, understands the need of senior players, but feels that they should lead the team from the front and work hard along with the youngsters. The coach is of the view that the senior players
were not as professional in the past as they should have been.
He added, "We need experienced players that are committed, committed to the cause of the team, whether that be fitness, whether that be attitude, whether that be supporting other people. But we need to change the culture around the
team and culture change is difficult."
