We have a 5 Year old who has occasional problems with wetting her pants. It is not an everyday problem, it seems to happen when she's playing outside for an extended period of time. She comes inside and uses the bathroom then the next thing I know she has a dirty wet spot on her bottom. I think she just gets pre-occupied and waits to run in untill it's too late. I would like to solve this soon because she starts kindergaden in about a week. Any suggestions or advice?

  1. 5 years old is alright for a kid who wets her pants. I was 7 before I stopped wetting myself! She should wear Pull-Ups or Good-nights. She can wear them to school too, because you cannot see them under her pants and you can just change them when she gets home. There are probably many kids just starting school who still wear pull ups, so dont worry. Just tell her teacher about it, pack an extra pull up in her bag so the teacher can change her mid-day if she needs too, then she'll be fine. Hope this helps!

  2. tell this to the teacher. but when you say long periods of time...like how long? recess is only 15 min. is this only outside?

  3. my sister had the same problem and my mom tried pull-ups which they kinda potty train but they also keep everything in without leaking out and its kinda helps so try that

  4. try getting her in the routine of using the bathroom more frequently. This will help her go before its too late. before or after or in the middle of play time. Don't make it a huge deal, you will put more stress on the situation and cause her to have more accidents. Just remind her that she needs to go more often. Good luck. A week isn't a lot of time.

  5. tell her when ever she feels like she has to use the bathroom, to go. and make sure the teacher knows about her problem and pack extra clothes when she goes to school.

    hope this helps!

  6. Get her into the habit of using the toilet before and after any playing activity.

Remind her that it's important that she asks herself every once in awhile when playing for a long time, "Do I have to go to the toilet"? To get her in this habit, ask her once in a while when doing activities...such as "What are you making? Oh, you're making a picture of a butterfly! That's nice. How are you feeling? Do you feel like you need to go to the bathroom?"

Ending it sooner rather than later would be good, for sure. Mention this to the teacher and ask her if she could make a point to remind her, or to have an assistant in the class remind her before recess to use the toilet as part of her routine.

  7. As a teacher I have had my fair share of 'accidents' so far this year! Usually it's because as one person has already said that the kid wants to keep playing and not stop (toileting is so inconvienient for a 5 year old!). Pack another pair of clothes for your daughter that she knows is there.

We teach our kids to be 'self smart' and to know when they have to go to the toilet. They also have to learn to hold it! The kids here have to ask the teacher to go, just incase there is a fire or something so we know where they are. If the teacher is busy and the kid doesn't see the signal to say they can go then they really do need to be able to hold it!

  8. This is quite common for a five year old.  Many children at that age when absorbed in play overestimate their holding capacity, which, of course, leads to wet pants.  You can try to remind your daughter to use the bathroom, but ultimately it's something she's got to be aware of on her own - and that will take longer than a week.  Just encourage her and don't get upset when she wets her pants.

There's a good chance your daughter might wet her pants at school, so have a spare set of clothes at school for her.  Also, let her teacher know what's going on too.

  9. well she may or may not have a small bladder and this happens sometimes cause I am 13 and I still wet my pants and bed due to small bladder I just wear diapers

  10. Make sure that she knows if she is say-finger painting.  and has to go to the bathroom when she comes back, her painting will still be there and she wouln't have missed a thing.
