Our BULLANT died yesterday, we had it in a tub for 4 months,, .why did it die?, old age?

Question

do bull ants live long?,, i had it in a container for 4 whole months!, i fed it sugar, biscuit crumbs, bread, fruit, and sprayed water in there every few days, we loved this ant, my kids were really sad when he died, i actually saw it on its back wriggling its legs as it was dying

would it have lived longer if it was in the garden?

i know its only an ant but cos we had him for so long and he was unusually big 2cm long, he was like a pet, thanks

no they dont live long

flies live up to 24 hours. incests are weird

wow! sorry to hear about your bullant...sorry i don't know much about ants, but sounds like you did your best, you kept an ant alive longer than i have ever kept a goldfish.

they have pretty short lives about 2 months next time maybe you can get them to breed and you wont have to worry about them dieing much! great job!

According to this site the average life expectancy of an ant is 45-60 days. If that's true, the fact your bull ant lived for four months meant you looked after him very well if that is any consolation.

even if it is just an ant, i have a lizard i caught in my yard.

theyre actually suppose to live for about 1-2 months, so you did a good job!

and to the guy above me, she didnt buy an ant, she caught it.

Oh I remember when you said you got him - I guess there is no way of knowing how old he was when you got him! Ants don't live long, max of a year or so, I guess it was old age....but don't all ants live in colonies? maybe he was lonely?

did he ever bite you?

I'm sorry for the loss of your tiny guy - I have 4 stick insects - I know I'll be sad when they go....
