The Union Health Minister -- Ambumani Ramadoss -- has found a new target. On Tuesday (April 29), he criticised the Indian Premier League (IPL) for promoting Liquor over cricket at their matches. Ramadoss is apparently upset with the IPL for displaying advertisements promoting liquor brands saying these will only encourage the consumption of liqour amongst the youth. However, the CEO of IPL -- Sundara Raman -- categorically stated that the IPL does not promote liquor, but promotes cricket throughout the tournament. Rahul Dravid told:" Never IPL promote liquor brand Royal Challenge, but Karnatak cricket specially Bangaluru cricket.

Isnit Controversry ~always with IPL.

  1. Ramadoss has been the minister of controversies and as such the statement made by him is not a surprise.

  2. in this particular issue (repeat in this particular issue) the Honourable Minister is correct - he has exactly addressed the issue to his profession without any amquity.  He should be appreciated if he has not made any political stunt.

When some people also talked about cheer leaders. - so so Honourable Minister also joined on his part and  talked about his portfolio.   Popularity (Wooo - all India Popularity will not come just like that - one has to take calculated risk at others cost.

[p.s] people who wanted to part away from fractured minority government can talk anything to embrass the Government and against some Minister (connected cricket) expecting Honourable Prime Minister to take the blame of showing the door to Honourable Health Minister, so that his party can join with other parties who are woeing them.

Fortunately, our Honourable Prime Minister is a seasoned, matured gentleman (defenitely not a politician), who will not fall prey to these types of gimmics/tactics.

  3. I agree with "Just Do It".

Both are right.....expressing concern as a Health Minister; and using popularity of Cricket to promote a brand.

However, I feel that, liquor ads keep appearing in one form or the other, in every form of media. Can you stop it?

Prostitution is bad as it has created public health issues. Can Ramadoss stop it? Poverty in his home state has contributed to this major public health problem, and I guess he is aware of it. This problem has created major health hazards. What has Ramadoss done about it so far as the "Public Health Minister"? How many brothels has he personally visited and advocated use of health precautions?

Banning something hardly arrests proliferation. In fact, it increases. Making an issue & getting undue publicity for it creates further damage by attracting unnecessary attention, and therefore curiosity.

As for Ramadoss, or for that matter any other politician, or elected representatives, staying in publicitym by hook or crook, is the only objective of life. Ramadoss is doing that well.

If our elected representatives are really honest about this, why don't they open their eyes, and follow the example of Australia, where smoking & boozing is 100 times more popular than Indian cricket lovers. Australia made a rule and followed it that Creicket will not be sponsored by Tobacco or Liquor companies.

    Is Ramadoss listening?

  4. Both are right.....being a health minister he has to be worried

about the promotion of liquor. On the other - being liquor

merchant and owner of RC team - he has the right to do so

but with permissions. So it is a catch-22 situation.

IMHO, liquor does not need any advertisement - as it is self

advertised. People who consume will always do it

irrespective of what other people say....Hence it does not

need to have sort of broadcasting about it.....

On the other hand, I agree with the health minister(even

though he may be consuming the same liquor), but he has a

responsibility and he is making sure that he communicates

and brings the concern with the public and others.

If people want to make controversies on any thing, they can

do it....for such people there are many ways to get there.

  5. hm not to stay we are the people hey hey whooooooooo!!!!!!!!

  6. I guess its time A Ramadoss goes to his partymen and ask them to do something constructive then living off criticising others.

  7. Sack the health minister.
