Our Monty will not be seen in the Grand National – Horse Racing News
After the Cheltenham Festival, the fans of the sport and all those involved in the business of horse-racing were anticipating one of the most prestigious events of the season, the John Smith’s Grand National meeting. This will be a three day event and will
start from 7 April at the Aintree racecourse. Sports analysts are anticipating seeing some of the best champion colts to compete against each other in this event.
The most recent major development regarding the participations and competitions of the Grand National meeting is the ruling out of Our Monty from the event. The reason as to why the race-horse will be missing the ride in Saturday’s Grand National has been
reported to be a severe leg infection from which the champion horse is suffering and is unfit for competition.
The race-horse trains under the close care and supervision of the famed and champion trainer Willie Mullins. When Our Monty was laid down because of the leg infection, Mullins was indeed very disappointed. He was reported as announcing that the race-horse
has acquired an infection in the front of his leg and according to the veterinarians, there were no chances of the infection becoming less severe before the weekend event.
The fans of the champion as well as the critics were looking forward to watching Our Monty’s performance in the exciting Aintree meeting. He was going to contend the National meeting on Saturday at odds of 40-1. In the big field of 40 contenders, the race-horse
just managed to make it to the competition, as he was the 40th participant. This news was more disappointing for the jockey Katie Walsh, since Our Monty was going to be her first mount in the National meeting.
After the ruling out of Our Monty in the event, the trainer Mullins will now be saddling three of his trainees in the race. Talking to the correspondents, he was reported as saying, “I’m very disappointed for his owners and for Katie too, who was so looking
forward to the ride.”
