Our Uk based pensions affected when you emigrate to Australia?

Sorry if i am ignorant BUT my hubby will have a forces pension due to him at age of 60. Will he be penalised finantially if we have emigrated to Australia?

  2. You should check with your pension provider but I believe the comment earlier about pensions not being index-linked applies only to the state old age pension, not to your occupational pension

  5. It won't affect any private pensions but any state related ones are frozen the day you leave the U.K.

    The Australian goverment won't "top them up" either which means that in a few years time you could be in financial trouble.

    You also will not qualify for state medical treatment or any other pensioner concessions.

    I went to the Centrelink office on behalf of my friends  last time I was in Aus and went into all this, and brought all the info' home for them. In the end they decided not to go.

    Apparently, there is an agreement between several countries which does protect pensioners but it doesn't apply to the U.K.

    Centrelink is the equivalent of our Dept of works and pensions.
