I know most babies say Mama first but our's likes to say Dada and he knows what it means. I was just wondering if anyone reading this has ever encountered this before with a baby in their lives.

Thanks.

  1. ive actually never known a baby to say mama first. Typically Da is just easier to mumble...its typically a first. Mine said baba first and then dada and just goes nuts with dada all the time and refers it to his dada. he says nana a lot but still no mama and he is 9 months old. this is how most babies are, baba..dada..nana...

  2. actually the most commom depending if a dad is around is dada my first word was dada and my 2 was mama and i used to shout out for no reason dada dada dada .....my little brother who is 9 years old his first word was dada and 2nd was also mama just like me it is fine don't worry

  3. i heard they say dada first because its easier

  4. this is very much common, my god daughter started saying Dada first, not that they know what they are saying, it's just the sound that comes out, when they hit their gum together, and it's easier to say.

  5. my daughter said dada first than mama. what's more strange is that she sees her daddy once every month since my husband work in another city. my husband was happy though when he found this out. it made him secured that even if my daughter doesn't see him always, she knows who dada is "o)

  6. Well, I've read that most babies actually find it easier to say the "d" sound and therefore, it comes out dada. Or sometimes just dadadada and they aren't really saying anything at all, just blabbing because they like the sound. Not saying that your baby doesn't know what he's saying, don't get me wrong. lol If he's saying Dada a lot and not dadadada a lot, then he really does know what he's saying. He'll start saying mama in no time also.

My daughter's first word was baby. lol

  7. both my kids said dada first, and said it for months and months before they said mama.

i think it may be because its easier to say plus the kids are home with mom all day and when dad gets home its excitment for them. they have us all day long.

  8. It is more common for a baby to dada first. D's are easier to say then M's.

  9. actually, dada is more common to say first.  It is easier for babies to say, the way they form their mouths.

  10. my little boy said mama first around 5 months and then he learnt dada and now its all about the dada unless hes hurt himself then he wants me lol

  11. yeah, my 17 month old still says dada more frequently than mama.  dada was her first true word (along with more and all-done).

  12. My baby said mama first and didn't get dada until a bit later, but he will crawl up to him now and pull on his pants and say "dadadada" until he gets picked up!

  13. It is common, as it is easier to say.

My oldest said "Hi" first. It was what her aunt taught her at 6 mos old - she said it to her all the time and one day, Mattea repeated it.

  14. I think it has to do with whatever parent the baby see's most often

  15. Very. I was reading in Parenting Magazine (or one of those ones) that it's easier for a baby to say dada than mama. My first word was cookie and lots of dada.

  16. Actually, babies more commonly say Dada before Mama. It is much easier to shape their tongue in such a way to form the D-sound than it is the M-sound, so most babies say Dada before Mama.

Uncommon, but very possible, is babies saying Mama before Dada. Our daughter did. Mama was her first "word" at 4 months old, and now at nearly 17 months, she never stops talking.

  17. actually dada usually comes first, given that the baby is exposed to both names and faces pretty regularly.  in our house, however, mama came way before, bc my husband wanted to be called papa!  he got frustrated that baby said mama so much sooner and i told him that it was his fault!  ;)

  18. Most babies say Dada first because it's easier to make that movement with your mouth than it is to say mama.  Both of my boys said dada first before they said mama.  it was months from saying dada before they said mama.  My 10 month old only says dada and he had yet to say mama.

  19. My son said 'Daddy' first, but he loves me and my husband very much.  Now, he says "mama'' and "daddy" all the time.

  20. Our oldest said dada long before he ever said mama.  They normally start by saying it indiscriminately so don't be surprised if he calls everyone dada for a while.

My 3 year old is constantly telling my 6 month old, "say bubba" so I think "say bubba" is going to be his first word(s), LOL.

  21. Yes.

Babys normaly say 'dada' before 'mama' because you can just say dada without moving your tounge but to say mama you have to kinda move your tounge.

Bacicaly dada is easier to say.

    Don't worry.

    Hoped i helped!

  22. I said "Dada" before "Mama" If you think about it, its easier to Dada, with Mama, you have to make a diffucult sound. Dada is quick and easy.

Its not "rare" Babie spend more time with their Moms when they're young. Feeding, changing, handling, and sleeping...
