Hi people our baby will not take a full bottle. He is 11 weeks old and is fed on formula with infant gaviscon added, he also gets infacol before his bottle. Ok here we go since he got here he has always enjoyed feeding and always wanted more but for the last week and a half he will not take anymore than 4oz every 4 hours sometime even less. After hearing the same information that we get with evey question we ask the midwife " He is fine every baby is different"we took him to see the doctor and he advised us to up the size of his teat so that he doesn't take in air while eating this worked for 2 days now he is not eating properly again. This is driving us crazy any suggestions would be appreciated. (P.S We use Dr Brown bottles and have tried colief drops, dentonox, gripe water none of theses helped)

  1. Your problem may be as simple as, he is starting to cut teeth.  I have six children, some had teeth erupt as early as twelve weeks and others as late as nine months.  If his gums appear swollen and angry coupled with excessive drolling this would suggest to me that it is a stong possibility.  When teething you can rub some liquor on their gums with a clean finger to  provide a numbing effectI would follow my instincts though, do not let this continue for any length of time. If your midwife, pediatrican etc does not provide you an answer you are comfortable with, find another one.  Do not allow others to deter you, this is your child and ultimately you are responsible for him.  Good luck and God bless.

  2. After he has fed and doesn't want any more does he cry from still being hungry or does he go to sleep.

  3. I highly doubt there is anything wrong.  Your son will eat what he needs.  Sometimes kids go through a "not so hungry" stage.  His little body will let him know when he needs more nourishment.  Don't worry, his appetite will go back to normal, and may even want more before long!

Good luck, and don't fret!  You are doing your best for him!

  4. try him with water, he may just be thirsty, with breastfeeding it usually isnt necesary, but sometimes botlle fed babys get constipated, cool, boiled water, good luck.

  5. Babies' appetites have ups and downs, too.  If he is still giving you 8 or more wet diapers a day, he is probably okay.  If you are still worried, though, you should talk to the doctor again.

Being a new parent is stressful, but hang in there!

P.S--Do NOT put liquor on your baby's gums!  There are pain-relieving gels you can buy in the grocery store if you think his gums are hurting.
