  1. Cover the tire with a thick cloth like that used on fender covers.

  2. Carpet, cheap, easy ,durable. If you have the ability tie it off from other side as well so it pulls away from dock. This works best in boat slip. They also sell solid but flexible mooring bows. Never used one personally but have seen them and they work great. Good luck, wish I still had this problem. I sold my 21 ft Chris Craft scorpion 210.

  3. Check your local fire dept(s) for retired hose....install along circumference with bolts & fender washers with adequate gathers to prevent contact with bolt heads. Gathers mean extra material betwixt bolts to extend out from tire. Could also get swimming noodle of proper O.D to fill hose...that's a better idea...actually.

Or don't be so cheap & un-nautical & buy a mooring ball. or a buoy to hold chain up.

  4. I have a few ideas for you:

    - measure the diameter of the tire, and search online or at an auto store for a tire cover that slips over tires, like you see on spare tires on the back of SUV's.  Find a white one on the internet if you have to, and slip it right over the tire.

    - at boat stores, they sell this bumper strip that you s***w alongside the dock.  It looks like its made out of real heavy guage white canvas, thats bunched together every few inches.  It's flexible, so s***w it all around the tire, then cut off the excess.

    - they sell special spraypaint that chemically fuses with rubber and plastic.  search on the internet for this or go to a home improvement store and buy a can or two of white, and spray the tire with several coats.  the white tire now shouldn't leave marks.

    - get a bunch of old boat fenders, the regular rubber kind that you hang from the boat.  Drill holes all around the top of the tire, and hang these bumpers with a small lenght of rope all around the tire, so the tire is covered with these bumpers.

  5. Carpet Pad , will last for ever and wont scratch the Gel coat.

  6. use carpet

  7. Buy some fenders for the boat...

  8. Get that d**n tire out of there and buy some real fenders.

    Putt
