We have Geico. And a 2007 Toyota Yaris. When my boyfriend moved in, we called to see how much it would be to put him on our insurance as an occasional driver. It was 1000 for 6 months. Then they made us mail him something as proof he wasn't living there or they were going to charge us anyways! So now we got a letter that says they did it anyways and they want more proof. His insurance for his broken down car is at our address cause he was living with us then moved out. His license and everything is still at his old home. Even if he moves out, we can't prove he doesn't live there cause they want a utility bill with his name on it! What can we do? Is this legal? We don't have the money to switch insurances.

  1. It is legal.  But this company is not charing you right aways.  You can sign a driver exclusion which means you will not allow him to drive your cars and then they will not charge for him.   Single males pay the highest insurance rates.

I would definately change insurance companies.   They should have given you some options.

  2. When my boyfriend moved in...

His insurance for his broken down car is at our address ..

You have a couple of choices.  You can add him to your insurance and pay the difference which is because of the risk going up with him living at your address, or you can list him as an excluded driver on your car and never let him drive it.

Absolutely they can do that.  Where is he living now?  Have him bring you a utility bill in his name at his address and that will get you off the hook also.

  3. shop a round there is hundred of companies  yours is one of the highest.... you dont have to give them anything.. you insure the car any wheres... not the drivers.. old scam to get more money out of people.. try to get car insuance with out a car think about it.. just drive it

  4. It should not cost you anything to change insurance. If you have already paid for a full year, when you change companies your previous company should return the unused months money

  5. What they are doing is legal - I hate to say. Heres some helpful stuff though:

If he has his own car and own insurance - they should let you off the hook. You will need to send that info in (Registration and Insurance), but that should work. If the customer service rep won't budge, ask to speak to a supervisor about the matter.

If not, ask the customer service agent about a Named Driver Exclusion (after signing this, he would not be able to drive the vehicle).

Lastly, you can cancel your insurance and get a prorated refund.

I hope that helps. Good luck!
