Question:

Our cats have fleas - what can we do?

We have three cats, live in a block of flats and they have fleas. We can see them in their fur and we see the flea droppings and eggs around the flat but have only ever seen one (dead) on the floor. We've sprayed the flat and used the spot on type treatment on the back of the cats' necks but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas (we're in the UK)?

  1. Capstar and Advantage for the cats and treat your house with a premise spray containing an IGR insect growth regulator.

  2. You can buy Capstar and Frontline Plus at drsfostersmith.com . The Capstar will kill all the fleas on your cat almost instantly and the frontline will prevent re-infestation. Use the Capstar right away. It will kill all fleas on your cat with in an hour. It is imperative that you do not skip this. Frontline (or advantage, revolution, promeris, etc.) is only effective if the flea bites the cat. Fleas have a 3 week lifespan and only feed for a few days of those three weeks, so you must use Capstar to kill all live fleas on your cat. After you Capstar add on the Frontline Plus and it will keep fleas off your cat for 30 days. Any eggs that hatch will be killed when they feed by the Frontline. Refrontline every 30 days. No vet visit required and totally safe.

Frontline contains fipronil, which spreads via the body oils killing fleas within 24 hours and ticks within 48 hours. Ticks are generally killed before they bite, decreasing the risk of tick-borne disease transmission. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

Frontline Plus also contains (S)-methoprene, an Insect Growth Regulator, which prevents an insect from maturing or reproducing. Approved for use on kittens 8 weeks and older.

You can use FRONTLINE flea and tick control once a month and it's completely waterproof. Provide your cat with the best flea and tick protection, right from the start.

Capstar - Treats flea infestations on pets. Starts killing adult fleas on the pet within 30 minutes. One dose lasts 24 hours. Use when pets are likely to be exposed to fleas. Also may be used prior to surgery, boarding, or grooming. Active ingredient is Nitenpyram, which interferes with the normal nerve transmission of insects, effectively killing them. Not a preventive. For pets over four (4) weeks of age. Package of 6.

  3. Get Frontline from vet andget the spray they sell as well for your home and spray round every single place into corners and everything. This works and then although its expensive it will last ages and the frontline on cats will last quite a while as well. The frontline is about 25.00 but well worth it as its about 6 months supply or more.

  4. anything you buy at the store usually doesnt work. go to your vet or any vet near you and you can purchase a flea medicine for cats called advantage. apply this once a month and your cat wont have fleas anymore.

  5. Get your cats out - take them to the groomer or vet & have them flea dipped & started on a monthly treatment like Frontline.

While the cats are gone salt your house.  Use regular table salt & sprinkle it on your carpets, couches, any fabric you can't throw in the washing machine.  Let it sit for an hour, then vacuum it up.  Salt your house again & let it sit for 24 hours & vacuum it up.  The salt works like an acid on the fleas.  It burns through their shell & kills them.  This works great & everybody I know has tried it at one time or another & loved it.

  6. the kind of flea lotion you can buy in the supermarket is no good. You need Frontline. I buy it on line from www.pharmavet.com
