Our dishwasher is leaving a film on everything

its a whit-ish film and it smells like a wet dog! Especially our glasses. I think the rinse-aid mechanism is broken. I've tried using different detergents and using less detergents as well as using vinegar, but nothing is working. I hand wash all our glasses now because the dishwasher is useless. Please help!! :)
