Question:

Our dog licks his body nonstop. We have ruled out food allergies. What else could cause this?

We think he may be allergic to something else. Are there antihistamines that work for dogs? Our vet seemed to think the only thing to use was cortico-steroids.

  1. DEAR LORD!! benadryl is not 12.5mg per pound!!!!!

    you could try antihistamines, but some dogs do not respond to them.  if you have tried steroids and your dog responded to them then he more than likely has environmental allergies.  if they are chronic as opposed to just seasonal, you could try a product called atopica.  it works wonders in dogs with chronic environmental allergies.  you could also have him tested to see what he is allergic too and try allergy injections, but they generally do not work and you have to wait at least 6 months to a year to know if they are helping.


  2. you can give benadryl to your dog is 1mg per pound. it wont hurt him if he doesnt have allergies so try it and see. it could also be a ocd grooming problem. i would rule out allergies first tho as its more common try the benadryl.

  4. How Often To You Bath Him?

    Maybe Wash Him A Bit More.

  7. He might have fleas or he could be stressed and he is l*****g himself because of it. Hope this helps :)
