  1. Isn't it a shame that we have only one go at life

and we waste it worrying about something as triavial as education

i believe that education is important

after all i am a teacher

    however

i think people loose all perspective on knowledge

    it is often

more important for a person to have fun

and find a profession that makes them happy

life is to short to worry about

    trivial things like education

    furthermore

    as a teacher

i see that a lot teaching

is simply a form of programmming

    to make the students

    better workers in our society

    that might be right

    but

    what about quality of life?

  2. it may be but its not the only thing that stresses students out.

many schools themselves overwork students and abuse students too. teachers often take out their personal frustrations on students and punish them unnecessarily. many students who may have genuine learning disabilities are penalised for doing badly instead of recognizing if he or she may actually need extra help. in short many schools these days go out of the way to burden students just cuz they have to show results.

but its not just schools. it's also the parents. often parents think that the only thing kids have to do is study. and if the kids find it boring they have to try n make it interesting, not force the kids. so many parents put their kids in schools that are strict with lots of homework. my school has no exams till 6th std and they dont have a ranking system, and dont believe in demoting students. but the no exams policy makes many parents think the school is not good enough, while actually its very good and you learn a lot more than just to study books. also there are schools which give equal importance to sports and other activities as studying but many parents think this is not good enough, schools have to be 100% studies n put their kids in those kinda schools.

generally our edu sys is not great, but it's not fatally defective, except for that you dont hav much choice in what you learn and it can be a lil dry. but ultimately you do learn a lot in the end. the impact comes more from how it is implemented by schools and also from many misapprehensions that parents have about educating their kids. especially the 'marks are everything' attitude that many parents take is sickening and it completely devastates so many talented children.

  3. to some extent..but not fully..our education sys mainly cares abt the marks scored..whc is very wrong..you should care about the concepts, the logics applied..and may be the iq level..acc. to me what mainly matters is the the perception percieved by the pupil to view a particular problem.

on the other hand...the central board has reduced the syllabus dramatically to reduce the stress on the student...if in such a tiny syllabus 2 the student is'nt free from strain the main reason is peer pressure...parental pressure...and the fact that he/she wld be judged solely and mainly acc. to his/her percentile..!!

i absolutely agree w/ penny too

  4. yes , to some extent as they provide a lot of pressure

  5. If you are talking about the English education sysem which tests children at 7, 11,14, and 16, then I agree there is a lot of pressure on the pupils  to do well at every stage in order for the school to reach its L.A. and government targets.

It also puts a lot of pressure on the teachers.

  6. In what way? Good grief.  Education is a luxery.  There are places in the world where children would give anything to go to school but they can't.  I'm tired of young people complaining about school.  They should be thankful they are able to go, and stop being so lazy and actually do some work, and study.  There is no reason in the modern world, for people to not have at least a high school education.  (barring of course, those who have disabilities that prevent that) It is not stress and strain, it is called work- and you don't get anywhere in the world without it.

  7. A system for education should deliver knowledge which can be utilized to build a peaceful society. It should provide opportunity to all.

But unfortunately, our system tests our memory skills rather than the knowledge. We learn concepts only to write an examination. It begins in the early stage, where every question arised is left unanswered stating that it is out of the scope of our syllabus.Consequently, we end up as mere recorders.

Then comes the admission in the higher education, where  students do not get the course which they wish for.

We are then forced to take up whatever comes our way...... This must change..... We need a system which builds confidence in us not the one which crushes our dreams................
