Question:

Our ferret?

Our ferret is getting close to being a year old. He was born in October, and we got him in December. He has been having a lot of sneezing fits lately. I don't know what could be causing it other than allergies, but I do not know what he would be allergic to. We have been using the same food and same bedding. His cage has been sitting in the same spot in our house that it's been in for a couple of months. He is also becoming more lethargic. He used to be awake all hours of the day and night, and only slept occasionally. Now he sleeps more than he is awake, and when he gets out of his cage to play with the cats, he tires out quicker than he used to, and he normally finds something to crawl under and goes to sleep, until we find him and put him back in his cage. We are going to make him a vet appointment for the week after next (because we are going on vacation soon). But I was wondering if anyone knows what might be causing this.

  1. Don't chance anything.. Take him to the vet. ASAP

  2. Well, take him to the vet and if it is allergies it might be the bedding, try this bedding, http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js... it is Hypoallergenic and Completely dust-free and, Hygienic, sanitary, non-toxic and totally eliminates dust! Also eco frendly! Also ferrets do tend to sneeze alot.

  3. Ferrets do tend to sneeze a lot due to dust and being on the floor a lot where dust settles. Around a year old they also seem to calm down quit a bit. I would take him in for a vet check up before you leave, the sooner the better. They can go from ok to bad in a short time if its an illness. Please don't leave him alone when you go on vacation. Make sure you have a sitter.

Edit: As long as he doesn't have a runny nose or heavy lethargy I wouldn't stress too much. Ferrets can catch human viruses though, which can last as long as a human cold or flu.

if he starts coughing or has a thick mucus discharge than have someone take him in if you can't.
