Our group owner is away for weeks & I am the only moderator with no privelidges how do I get new members added

I don't know how it happened but i didn't get privelidges to add members when I was appointed a moderator and our group owner had a big computer crash and is saving up for a replacement computer, meanwhile we have 3 people queueing up to join the group already - help!

I am the only moderator for the group apart from the owner.

there's nothing you can do. only that owner can appoint priviledges to you- sorry.

You could send potential members the URL of the group with an invitation.  Of course if only the owner can accept new members that won't help very much.
