Our neighbour's daughter has parked her car outside our house(legally so i know theres not alot we can do about that) but she doesnt live next door anymore and since she parked there after she's visited her parents, she has walked home and come back to her parents somehow and walked back home and has left her car still, we do have a drive way, we have three cars but we cant get three cars in our driveway due to our other neighbours fence as we then cant get out of the car once its past the house. so we have to have a car parked outside our house, but now we've had to park outside our other neighbours house( we asked her and she doesnt mind) but we then cant keep a check on the car because its not in sight when we look out of our window, we do have naughty little children in our area who thinks its a good idea to play with the mirrors and put screws near your tyres. I dont get why she has parked there and then just left it and walks home i know they dont have any consideration and we wouldnt like to do it to someone without asking if its ok first(are we expecting other people to go by our standards - yes), when the neighbours have their car parked outside their house(which they could get 5 cars down their drive if needed be)they have over lapped onto our space a lot of times and we did it once and they came around and asked us to move(its ok for them to do it but we do it the once and they are soon quick to come around), i dont get why they cant let their daughter use their drive way!(laziness)but were not the type of people who like confrontation. What can we do?

  1. Have you asked her to move it? If not then do that. If she wont then you have to call citezens advice for info on where you stand legally..it doesnt sound right to me...she doesnt even live there!

  2. If you don't want confrontation (which might not make a difference anyway) there's not a lot you can do, you don't own the road outside your house, anyone can park on it.  I know how irritating it can be though.  Can you not park one of your cars there next time she moves hers and leave it there for a while until she takes a hint?

  3. Hi, I live in the North West of the UK, one of the jobs I done a few years ago is to dig out my front Garden in preperation to keep my car off the main street (As it is busy) I lowered the Kirbs ( Edge or the pavement) all with the drawings off the local highway Dep, I used the right Gravel/stone, and concrete to back up the Kirb stones, There was a Neighbour of mine that used to park accross my drive and Block me in, In the end I contacted the Police whom in turn ask her to move her car or she would be done for obstructing a DRIVEWAY. if you have an approved crossing from your drive ask her to please remove the car & explain why if it persits explain again that if it happens again you will get the police to sort it out.

  4. You can have it towed, but you are liable for any costs to them (like impound costs and towing costs).  This would also lead to confrontation.

You have a few bucks you are willing to spend, you could have the tow truck move it down the street a bit (still in sight of their house), just so it's out of your way.  That way there would be no cost or real inconvenience to them.

You could also check with your local ordinances to see how long it has to sit there to be considered abandoned, and if that time has passed, have the city tow it.  Keep in mind that in some municipalities it would be public record that you asked them to tow it, which again would lead to confrontation.

  5. Whatever!?! It's public street owned by the city, not you, so they can park anywhere they like, and so can you for that matter. Maybe she is having car trouble and THAT is why she had to walk home, maybe you could ask her if she needs anyhelp, but you don't sound like that kind of person. You sound like the type that looks outside to see who ever drives by. I'm sorry to be so truthful, but you asked for it.

  6. If you live in the UK you can report the car as being abandoned to the Local Council. They come around and spray a line of white paint at the bottom of the two off side tyres and a small amount on the road. They then come back, say two weeks later and if the car has not moved (if the white lines on the tyres line up with the white lines on the road) then they will remove the car. That will create confrontation undoubtedly.

If you don't want to go down that line first, when you next see the girl ask her if she would move the car.

Incidentally, why have you got your car parked outside another neighbours house? Why don't you park outside her house.

  7. i would just go ahead, and report it. call the cops... they would be able to tell you right from wrong.

call a tow truck, and have them move it for you.

so you and your neighbors have had conflict in the past... if the car is there for more than three days, i would classify it as being abandoned.

no one has to know that it was you guys, whom called to have it towed, or ticketed... but it would be their fault, for having left the car there, in the first place.

maybe think about if there were a fire, and if that car was obstructing the path of firefighters to work properly...

  8. Don't know if you're UK or U.S but in the Uk if she's taxed and insured she has as much right to park outside of your house as you do.
