We've just bought a new boxed DVD set [Full Metal Alchemist, if that's important] from Amazon.com. We live in canada. My son is trying to watch it and the DVD doesn't p[lay smoothly: it keeps starting and stopping - stuttering forward, like a car pinking. This has never happened before. The DVD player is 7 months old. Any ideas? Or should we return the DVDs to Amazon?

  1. If the DVD player was not in use for a long time, try keeping it in a dry shaded place in your home. It can also happen due to moisture or extremes of temperatures. Don't try to clean the lens since you might end up causing more damage.

If the problem doesn't resolve over a few days and is happening on almost all the discs, it might be some problem with the tracking. You can either give it for repairs (usually expensive and not recommended) or buy a new DVD player if it's old.

  2. Make sure you DVD player is clean.

  3. Try playing the discs on a different player.

Also check to see if the discs have damage or are dirty.

Also, try other DVDs on the player that's having trouble.

You may also wish to exchange the set for a replacement with Amazon.

  4. try cleaning the dvd, check for scratches etc. there could be a problem with the disk, check it.

if the problem persists i would say to amazon that the product is damaged, send it back for new merch or your money back
