The egg is bloody. We've moved her to a quiet place (shoe box with plenty of cushion. What should we do to assist her? Cannot tell whether she is in distress but, most likley is.

  1. GET HER TO A VET IMMEDIATELY.  she is egg bound and the longer you wait, the more tramatic it is and she can die.

  2. you should call the vet. birds can die from this. this is an emergency.

even if the egg comes out bleeding is not good.

going forward you should make sure she eats MUCH more calcium if she lays eggs.

  3. This problem is known as egg-binding -- a type of severe constipation in birds when they're laying eggs. Egg-binding usually results in the bird's death. Immediately take your bird to an avian vet. For first aid, get some steaming hot water in a dish, put a grill over the dish, and set your bird on the grille. The steam relieves the bird's anal muscles and can help the egg pass through more easily. If you want to make sure the egg doesn't crack (or boil!) when it drops in the hot water, put a sieve on the dish before putting on the grille.

  4. There is nothing you can do to assist her other than taking her to a vet. She is trying to lay a soft shelled egg. The reason this happened is because she had a calcium deficiency. If the egg breaks, it is likely she will die.

So you can either take her to the vet or wait and hope for the best. But waiting will probably not turn out well. I'm sorry.

  5. This is an emergency.

Take your shoe-box and go to the vet=one that specializes in birds if possible.

YOu might try a warm towel to wrap her in, or do what the one poster recommended-if you know what you are doing.

You can cook bird and egg, if you are not knowledgeable.

If not, you are going to lose your bird, if you don't hurry.

    Good luck.
