eating them or biting. Could it be a bully? yet they've been together for a long time without anything like that happening before. Or, could it be the tadpoles which are now at the leg stage? If it is the tadpoles then would we be better leaving the dead fish in the pond?

  1. herons cause this dammage you must put a net over your pond other wise they will be taken by the heron

  2. you got a heron problem hun, net your pond asap, not tadpoles at all, im lucky , got 3 cats that guard my fish from herons, 1 tryed n didnt make it outa garden, (what a shame) 1 less in the world to bother us fish keepers

  3. Sounds as if it could be bird attacks. We have lots of crows herons, magpies etc near us as there is a burn on one side of our land. We see the birds down by the water so they could be catching fish.

They will see your pond as a small burn for them to fish in.

As you say it could be one of the other fish which is more aggressive than the rest.

  4. i would say probably a bird, taking bites out of them and then they die. Birds love pond fish. I would suggest getting a net to place over the pond to keep the birds out. Less attractive but if you want fish it may be the best idea.

  5. what you have is a very large bullfrog in your pond, he can't swallow the fish but he does kill it, bullfrogs have two large fangs at the back of their throats that help them to swallow and they will attempt to swallow fish that are too large, it dies while they try to swallow it then they spit it out

you must find this frog before he wipes you out and keep an eye on the tadpoles you have, don't let them get too big

    good luck

  6. If you have or had frogs in your pond it might be toads

they attacked all my goldfish and koi. They think its a female and hold on are the wounds near there eyes and gills?

  7. It's got nothing to do with the tadpoles, the fish would be the ones eating them.

From experience it's not a heron, they don't leave a meal behind.

Most likely a new cat on the block that is killing for fun.

Remove the dead fish, tadpoles couldn't eat them quick enough to stop them polluting the water.
