The Red’s number 37 believes that the Merseyside club can still qualify for the Champions League and win some silverware this season.
Liverpool is one of the most historically rich clubs in the country and has high standards in terms of what they set out to achieve in each football campaign. However, over the past few seasons, the club has not been lagging behind, having not qualified
for the UEFA Champions League in the past three seasons.
The Merseyside club have struggled this term in the Barclays Premier League as they currently sit in seventh position in the table behind the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Newcastle United who pose direct competition to the fourth and final qualifying spot
for the Champions League.
However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s in-form centre back, Martin Skrtel believes that the club can still achieve its goals for the season.
The player outlines the club’s objectives for the seasons when he said, “At the start of the season out targets were to qualify for the Champions League and to win some trophies.”
Liverpool has managed to keep themselves in the hunt for silverware this season as the club have secured a long awaited return to Wembley. The club secured a place in the final of the Carling Cup when they beat Premier League highfliers Manchester City in
the semi-finals of the competition.
At the same time, the club also knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup as well to progress to the next round. Both runs seem to have the Reds on a high as Skrtel pointed out.
“Now we are in the Carling Cup final, still in the FA Cup and close to the top four.”
He continued, “Our targets are still reachable. We just need to focus on the next game and try to win that. Then, when all the games are played, we’ll see how many points we have in the end.”
The player also believes that it is up to the players to ensure they qualify for European football next season.
“It’s up to us to ensure we qualify for the Champions League. When you look at our games with the teams who are in those positions at the moment I don’t think they are that much better than us.”
