Question:

Our washer flooded on to the carpet

Hi, the drainage pipe fell from our washer because the washer "walks" when it has a large load and the pipe came dislodged. All the water drained on to our carpet. It went out about 4 feet from the front of the washer and several feet to the left and right. Will we have to replace the carpet? We have been using the wet vac for the past 2 hours trying to suck it up, but it still feels damp...

  1. Rob S deserves the ten points on this one..

  2. Go to the local hardware store and rent a dehumidifier and a carpet cleaner as the water may leave stains because the water is dirty from the drain.

  3.   1 st three are good suggestions , but they miss a point.. You should take up the padding and you ll have to   dry the subfloor so you don t get any mold from the padding trapping the moisture there.. You ll have to replace the pad in that section but thats cheap..GL

PS  Take a small piece of padding in to a store to match thickness up ..You ll have to buy it in6 ft wide pieces by what ever length you need

  4. If you can pull the carpet up and back and then have a fan blowing on it, that should help quite a bit.

  5. You have to lift the carpet up and air it out.  Prop it up and turn on a fan.  You would only need to replace it if you don't get it dry before the mold takes over.
