“Our whole team would love to have a guy of his caliber,” says Clayton Kershaw for Cole Hamels
The Los Angeles Dodgers' starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw is currently giving some key suggestions to Philadelphia Phillies' starter Cole Hamels who after this Major League Baseball season will be eligible for free agency.
"I would love to have him there," Kershaw said. "Our whole team would love to have a guy of his caliber. I hope we make a run at him."
Later Hamels spoke optimistically and told the reporters about his future plans, “All I say to them is that I've been to every city, and I know what every city is like, We might start a roll, We might even be able to sweep a team. Have we done that this year? We have to get back to having confidence. If we do that, we can be the team that won 102 games [last year]."
Hamels has finished first half of the season with 3.20 ERA along with 10-4 win-loss, 118 strike-outs and 1.10 WHIP. He has been playing in the Phillies since 2006 as he has so far achieved tremendous 3.38 ERA along with 84-58 win-loss, 1209 strike-outs and 1.14 WHIP.
He is certainly a talented player and if he decides to join the Dodgers after this season, this will be a huge step forward in his career.
However, Hamels’ who will be free to join any MLB franchise after this season is likely to stay in the Phillies.
Philadelphia will like to give him another long contract as they truly understand his worth.
They know that Hamels was part of the 2008 World Series Championship team. In 2008, his performance rose to another level.
He not only helped the Phillies to win the World Series, but he was also declared World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP).
In the same year, during the post season, his performance earned him National League Championship Series MVP Award.
Hamels’ is certainly a balanced player with huge experience. Any team will love to acquire his services but at the moment Kershaw is the only player who has taken an initiative to make Hamels’ agree to join Dodgers after this season.
