Our xbox360 has just failed

our xbox360 has just failed with one red light and the e74 error code,do we have to send it back to Microsoft or can we fix it ourselves? spoke to the UK customer services,(based in India),total waste of time,they can't understand english let alone solve the problem.can you help?
