How can they get into a private Yahoo group that is invitation only? They are now sending some members individual emails asking them to send money to them in the UK.

  1. a closed group isn't even in the directory so for anyone to even find that group is near impossible. that phishing is going around to many people, you'd have to confirm they were a member of your group as to that's where they got the addresses from. my guess is they got the addresses either from some where else or randomly searching the member directory, or typing in random combo's of addresses.

most everyone blames spam and phishing is coming from a yahoo group, when in fact alot of times it's from forwarded e-mails with a string of addresses a mile long, which would be one way a spammer gets a hold of a closed groups name; FWD's which people go through their address books and include it and every other address. once a spammer get's a hold of that, it's not hard at all to know the posting addy and owner addy.

also, a closed group can still allow 'anyone' to post setting- so if they got a hold of the groups addy from where ever, they could post spam to the group with that one setting.
