Oussama Sahnoune dominates Men’s 50m freestyle prelims – African Senior Championships
Oussama Sahnoune of ALGE-ZZ dominated the qualification rounds of the Men’s 50m freestyle on final day of the 11th African Senior Swimming Championships 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya on Sunday, September 16.
The 20-year-old Sahnoune stunned the aquatic crowd with his exhausting efforts in the preliminary round of the event as he proved his mettle for fastest qualification spot of the race.
Sahnoune remained marginally ahead of his fellow swimmers and sprinted his way towards the finishing end as top fastest swimmer.
Sahnoune faced strong contest from Jason Dunford of KEN-ZZ in the single lap race but occupied the fastest qualifying position of the event with an effort of 23.46 seconds.
Dunford remained 0.27 seconds slower from overpowering his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with a second best qualification time of 23.73 seconds.
The second best finisher was followed by Mohamed Abdelmegid of EGY-ZZ, who suffered a loss of only 0.09 seconds from his preceding swimmer and tapped the finishing end with an effort of 23.82 seconds.
Fourth best qualification spot of the race was obtained by Myles M Brown of RSA-ZZ, who remained 0.08 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end by producing a time of 23.90 seconds.
The 20-year-old Brown was chased by Abdoul Khadre Niane of SENE-ZZ, who stayed 0.04 seconds behind and stepped on the finishing blockade as fifth best finisher by touching the wall with a timing of 23.94 seconds.
Subsequently, Niane remained 0.60 seconds faster from Samson Opuakpo of NIG-ZZ, who qualified into the final round as sixth best finisher by submitting a time of 24.54 seconds.
Opuakpo was traced by Joao Aguiar of ANG-ZZ, who suffered a deficit of 0.05 seconds from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 24.59 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the event was secured by JT Engelbrecht of NAMB-ZZ, who stayed just 0.01 seconds apart and stepped on the finishing end as eighth best finisher by reporting a time of 24.60 seconds.
In addition, Sahnoune expressed happiness over his top finish in the event and articulated that he would try hard to sustain his place in the final round.
