I just ran out of hamster food and we can't go buy more food until Saturday. Are there any other foods I can feed my hamster until then? I know that changing a hamsters diet is very dangerous to a hamster, but I'd take that chance than to let him die of starvation. Please, I need help!! Please give me details on how much of these foods I can give to my hammie per day, so that it will very precise to not make him sick. Can I feed him rice or cheerios? What fruits/veggies can I give him? What can I give him for protein? Please help me!! My hamsters life depends on your answers!!! Please, I'm desperate!! :( :( :( :( :(

  1. I heard they like alfalfa sprouts and sunflower seeds

  5. fruits and veggies might do the job

  6. The only thing you can feed him is carrots cabbage or sucumber nothing else or your changing his diet and you could put some on the side to make them dry because hamsters eat dry cabbage

  7. u can give hamsters basically any fruit or veggies. give him small amounts so it isnt like a big explosion of new food. also give him boiled rice or chicken. my hamster loved that!! as far as the amount give him like a 1/3 or 1/4 of his food bowl, about every few hours. also check his cage and see if u can find any food that he hid. like hamsters usually do. so dont clean his cage until his new food is bought. cuz he might be able to just live off of his saved food. but just in case give him the fruits and veggies.

  8. umm non-suared cereal such as cheerios (NOT the honey nut ones) shreddies, they like pasta uncooked, a FEW nuts such as peanuts and almonds w/o skin, if you have any bir seed (either wild or pet  they can have that too... is there a local rocery store nearby you can go to? maybe get a small packet of bird seed or hammy food? i kn ow i live near a Valu*mart and they have these little  2 or 3 cup boxes for around 2$ that i can buy in a inh.. good luck =]\

    EDIT bread

  9. Well it is very important that your hamster has plenty of fresh fruit in his diet. I dont know what kind of hamser you hav but you can look it up on the internet. Try oatmeal (about 2 tablespoons) ar a little youguhrt  on an apple slice. SOme raw walnuts aor peanuts. unsalted sunflower seeds. a bannana coin. You need to be giving him more fruit. Read up on him. Get to know him better

  10. if you have oats and carrots. or seeds of any kind unsalted

  11. CALM DOWN!!

Okay how long has its been since you've cleaned the cage. If you didn't clean it yesterday then your hamster probally has a lot of the food that you've been giving him hidden somewhere. That should help with the change in diet. Since he still will be eating his usual food along with the other foods you give him.

Start out tonight by giving him any of the following fruits and veggies that he has had before if possible:

    Kiwi

    Peaches

    Cherry Tomatoes

    Watermelon

    Apple

    Plum

    Pear

    Melon

    Raspberry

    Papaya

    Blueberry

    Blackberry

    Strawberry

    Pineapple

    Bananas

    Grapes

    Carrots

    Broccoli

    Peas

    Spinach

    Squash

    Peppers

    Corn

    Greenbeans

If you have no fruits and veggies avalible then here are some things you can also give him and has less of giving him dierrea if you give him to much by accident.

    Hay

    Dog biscutes

    seed sticks

    UNsweetened cereals

    Pretzels

    Crackers

    Uncooked Noodles

    Stale Bread

    Uncooked Rice

    Uncoocked hot cereals

Also you can try to catch a moth or cricket to give him, but only one. I don't know where youlvie so this may not be possible.

Also if your hamster has any treats read the box and see how much it is reccommended to give a hamster in what amount of time. Some treats are really actually healthy and you can give him some of that.

Try and get food ASAP! If a friend has a hamster you can ask to borrow some food from him/her. Also if you can get to a Walmart or Shoprite they sometimes have something small that you can buy just until you cna get to a Pet store.

    ~Good Luck~

  12. chereos,carrots ,grass stay clam

  13. Not to worry. Hamsters are very hardy animals and two days on a different diet would not harm them in anyway provided the diet does not contain food that is harmful to them.

Normally they would have enough food stashed in their nest and bedding to suffice for the next 3 days, but if you are not sure, you can do the following -

Mix some barley or millet seeds, oats, corn flakes and wheat germ in a bowl and substitute for commercial hamster food (all of them should be natural, unsalted and unflavoured). In another tray, keep some finely chopped fresh veggies like carrots, broccoli etc. for their vitamins. And they should be fine for a day or two until you can get hold of their commercial feed.
