Out of all the tourist destinations in Mexico, which are the most overrated?

Everyone always asks about the good spots, but I think the disappointments and not-so-worthwhile places are good to mention, as well.

Are there any that you feel weren't as spectacular as the guidebooks claim?

Any sights that you thought were a complete waste of time?

Please say why it was disappointing.

The newest hot spots such as Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen are highly overrated, high prices, crowded with obnoxious visitors and towering skyscrapers, the locations have been over hyped to the point of saturation. In defense of Tijuana, it has long passed its prime as a tourism destination...it is a big city with big businesses and thousands of working people.The cross border traffic has become so stressful, and over reported crime stories that many regular visitors don't come to Baja anymore.

I've been to Mexico several times...east coast, west   coast, northern border towns,  off shore islands...and I was most disappointed by a day long trip to Copper Canyon.  I'm sure it is beautiful but the trip was all hype.....and pricey....with just 30 mins. to view one view of the canyon.....  I'll take the Grand Canyon any time.

Tijuana - nothing has been updated in about 3 decades, and it's just not up to even moderate standards of quality.  If you're a college kid looking for cheap booze and donkey shows; fine; but there's nothing for actual adults.

Acapulco is not as thrilling as advertised, either.  There is a tourist 'strip' with more or less modern hotels and local stores that cater to them; but beyond that, it's kind of run down and seedy.  The only *good* seats to watch the famous cliff divers are at an overpriced restaurant patio, where you have to pay just to get reservations.  On the other hand, if you want to study crabs scuttling through the ruins of a colonial age port, it's a gold mine.
