    the cotyledon's function is storage of fuel (often starch) for growth of the other parts.


  2. Cotyledon - it is the storehouse in the seed. It has the energy necessary to get the seedling started growing and out of the soil so it can start photosynthesis.  Once photosynthesis takes over the cotyledons wither and fall off the plant.
