Yoan Gouffran scored the only goal of the game as FC Girondins de Bordeaux recorded yet another victory over Olympique Lyonnais who seem to be going through a rough patch of late
Girondins de Bordeaux 1-0 Olympique Lyonnais
Olympique Lyonnais haven’t had the best trips to the South West of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 in recent months. Les Gones have not won a Ligue 1 game at the Stade Chaban Delmas since 2007. Last week, they lost to Caen and heading into this game, Les Gones were showing signs
of fatigue.
The game against Bordeaux was the 100th meeting between the two sides and was certainly a tough one to call.
Outspoken Bordeaux coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yoan-Gouffran-c37412.
After not featuring in Lyon’s 1-0 win over APOEL in the Champions League, Remi Garde gave Bafetimbi Gomis a chance to lead the attack alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexandre-Lacazette-c4895 who is proving to be a valuable asset.
However, chances were few and far between in the first half as both sides demonstrated a sparring session.
The first real chance of the game came in the 28th minute when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ludovic-Obraniak-c22623 free kick. With both defences holding steady, it seemed that the game would be a stalemate atleast until half time.
However, Bordeaux finally had the first say of the game when Bakary Kone inadvertently flicked Obraniak’s kick towards the path of Gouffran. The Frenchman needed no second invitation and slotted the ball before Hugo Lloris could do anything about it in the
42nd minute.
The second half started in similar fashion as Lyon came to get anywhere near the goal. Out of desperation, Remi Garde introduced Lisandro Lopez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kim-c20955 Kallstrom and the young Lacazette respectively.
However, the changes didn’t seem to work like they did in recent games. Lyon’s desperation was evident when Briand fell down way too easily after the slightest of touches from Ciani. However, the referee was not to be fooled as he waved play on.
Once again, it was Bordeaux who created perhaps, the best chance of the game. Czech international, Jaroslav Plasil’s free-kick was destined towards goal but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 made one of the best saves of the weekend to keep his side in the game.
In the end, the game finished 1-0 to Bordeaux. The result takes Les Girondins to eighth place in the standings while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130’ chances of playing in the Champions League have been dealt a major blow.
For Gillot, this was a certainly a moment to savour as it was his first win against Lyon in 12 games as a manager. Certainly, Gillot has defied tradition by making 13 his lucky number thus ending all assertion of people’s fear of the “unlucky 13” number.
