Out of ideas & time!?

The house I was leasing is going into foreclosure and my son, two dogs and I have to move out in two weeks. I need $5,000 to move and do not have any resources - no credit cards, no savings, no rich aunts - just a good, stable, well paying job - any suggestions?

  1. Here are a few ideas:

    1.  Sell everything you don't need on ebay or craigslist.  You'll reduce your expenses for moving because you will have less stuff and you'll raise some cash.

    2.  Ask your employer for a small advance.  Some will do this for loyal employees.  Resolve to start an emergency fund as soon as you pay back your employer, assuming s/he goes along with your request.

    3.  Apply for a signature loan at a local credit union or community bank.  Set up payroll deduction to repay the loan, and once it's paid, continue those payments into a regular savings account.

    4.  Do a combination of the above and ask your friends to help you move so that you don't have to come up with $5,000.  That seems like a lot of money!  Are you including the costs for the new place, such as first and last month's rent and security deposit, or just the actual moving costs?

Next time, you'll have some money for moving!

  2. why do you need $5k to move?  Get a few friends and you son and rent a u-haul and move all your stuff.  Then buy dinner for all your friends to show your gratitude.  If they expect payment they aren't really friends.  True friends help each other out.  This shouldn't cost much especially for someone with a well paying job.
