Question:

Out-of-prescription daily contact lenses?

I have about 20 pairs of out-of-prescription contact lenses which the optician won't take back because the boxes have been opened. It seems a waste to just throw them away - are there any charities or recycling facilities that can use them in the UK?

  1. I used mine when they were about 2 months out of date and they were fine - just check the seals on the individual capsules are sealed properly. When you open them as long as the lenses are still covered in the liquid they are fine.

The maufacturers have to allow longer than the dates to cover themselves as the liquid does dry out slowly.

Use them up quickly, they're too expensive to throw away!

  2. I was the same and sadly I chucked them!  What a great question!

  3. I suppose you could try the Red Cross , its a really nice thought .What a very interesting question sorry I couldnt be more help.
