Los Blancos face the prospect of drawing top European sides in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
This season’s UEFA Champions League group stages saw Real Madrid being drawn in to the group of death.
With 4 domestic champions constituting the group with the likes of English giants, Manchester City; German Bundesliga winners, Borussia Dortmund; Dutch champions, Ajax; and the Spanish champions themselves; it was a tough http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 at the hands of Los Blancos
to cement their somewhat expected progression.
A http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 led Madrid came out second best in the group, trailing German giants Dortmund, but ahead of both, Ajax and Manchester City.
Ronaldo’s 6 goals in as many matches saw the Spanish capital side seal their advancement but a tricky draw awaits the Madrid outfit on December 20th.
According to the current UEFA seeding criteria for the round of 16, a team that finishes its group in 2nd place is to take on fellow table toppers of other groups in the next round.
The country code suggests that the Madrid giants avoid fierce rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and fellow La Liga team Malaga for the draw, but find themselves in a troubled territory as they may well draw one of the five top European clubs.
According to the rules, Los Blancos will draw a team from Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Juventus, PSG and Shalke 04.
This has certainly not come as good news for the Spanish side, as they would have expected a much easier affair in the upcoming round, following they are playing catch up in their domestic league to arch rivals, Barcelona.
What the Real Madrid fans will be wishing is believed to be a nice tie with German side Shalke 04. The Germans are considered as probably the weakest of the possible five outfits and it may well be a piece of cake for Jose Mourinho’s men.
However, it is reported that the Santiago Bernabeu faithful are hoping to avoid German giants Bayern Munich and English powerhouse Manchester United as beating them over a two-legged affair might prove to be a difficult task.
