  1. Argentina is what I would choose.

Costa Rica is very nice but if you are looking for a cultural experience that is not the place to go. They are very modern and "Americanized". There will be so many opportunities in your adult live where you can visit Costa Rica. It's quite cheap to fly there. Consider vacationing there in the future.

Brazil, I have heard, is beautiful! While I would love to visit there sometime, safety is a concern of mine. I have not heard too many good things, as far as safety is concerned, coming from Brazil.

Argentina is rich in culture and is a beautiful country. It would absolutely be my choice out of the three.

  2. well, rio de janero and the amazon jungle (and iguazu falls) are in brazil.  they are not close together to.

costa rica has the beaches on the coast, the cloud forests and some great nature (see bouquete in panama too)

argentina has the wine country, iguazu falls (on the boarder of argentina and brazil) and buenos aires (see the colonial town of "colonia" in uruguay while you are there), and pategonia.  also not close together.

nature is everywhere in costa rica, but do not let it's tiny size fool you.  it does take a while to get places.

of course brazil has the amazon river and jungle.

safety?  argentina might be the best, brazil might be in third place....but all would be ok.

as for big city life....san jose is not the greatest.....but B.A. and Rio are great.  (skip sao paulo i hear)

cost, brazil should be the most...although you could EASILY spend more money in costa rica if you want/need to have certain luxuries.

argentina after their "peso debocle" used to be REALLY cheap.  you can still get a good deal, and you could easily spend LOTS of money on  luxury there.

food?  don't even give costa rica a consideration.  brazil and argentina are better.

    interesting culture????

again, costa rica is boring IMHO.....

brazil is best, but argentina has a certain charm too.

    have fun.

  3. If you're looking for a truly culturally different experience Costa Rica would be the last on the list.  Without a doubt you can experience it there as well, but I imagine that no matter where you go the family you stay with will be more affluent and in Costa Rica this means very Americanized.  Not that there is anything wrong with that at all.  Not only that, there is a very large tourist industry there meaning that you will see English speakers everywhere and bars and the such geared toward those tourists with English speakers often from the U.S. working there.  On the other hand it is safe and maintains very well all of it's parks, beaches and the like.  Argentina is also very safe and incredibly inexpensive.  The country is very beauiful and in the majority of the cities there is more than enough to do.  Lots of very nice beaches for the beach lover and plenty of nightlife and city like ambience for the city lover.  It is not overly geared towards tourists like Costa Rica can be.  The downside is you will find anti-american sentiment and arrogance coming from poorly informed people.  Certainly not all of them are poorly informed.  Also the Spanish spoken there is more difficult to understand and Vos is used almost exlusively.  Brasil I think would be the most different culturally speaking.  That is, of course, depending on where you are.  Of the three countries Brasil is the most dangerous, but in my opinion not terribly so, and there are certainly very safe and very nice neighborhoods all over the country.  Brasil requires a visa for Americans for 100 dollars and Portuguese is spoken there as opposed to Spanish in Costa Rica and Argentina.  Here you may encounter anit-american sentiment as well due to the relatively newly elected socialist president Lula, but not nearly as much as you will find in Argentina.   Have fun on your trip!

  4. Costa Rica i would say...because it's pretty safe and is sooo pretty....i went there a few summer's ago...or Argentina is supposed to be really nice too...but id go for Costa Rica there is so much to do...

  5. i recommend Brazil. it has some of the best beaches in the world. nice people. excellent food, great outdoor life (can never get bored), soccer, Christ the Redeemer (a must see), carnivals  with samba

  6. Costa Rica!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Costa Rica is so beautiful! It has everything, mountains, beach, rain forest, volcano. The people are nice and the food is great. Plus things are very inexpensive. I have been lots of places and this is my favorite,

  8. Argentina!!

  9. I would say Argentina without a doubt, you can go to Buenoes Aires or to the tip of the Pan American Highway which runs from Alsaka all the way down to the tip of Argentina.  Also, if you speak Spanish, Brazil doesn't speak Spanish so you would have to learn a new language portugese.  Also Brazil is very dangerous and has a high crime rate.  On the other hand Argentina is a little less dangerous but still be careful, I would not choose Costa Rica because I want to see South America and it's people and from Argentina you could even take a trip to Anratica.

  10. when i was in high school i was going between brazil, the netherlands, and france. after a lot of thought i decided on the netherlands and last minute changed my mind to france. lol

    ask yourself some questions;

what do you want out of this?

    language?

are you interested in a certain area of study?

    sports?

    family life?

do some research on the contries and see what appeals to you. list what you like and don't like about each one.

good luck, studying abroad was the best experience of my life and i would do it again in a heartbeat.
