all can go either way.  

The name Peyton is an old old England to Virginia family name, which happened to be used as a first name for MANY males in one of the families I research.  We believe it shows a probable marriage of one of our female ancestors (last name Peyton) to a male Clements.  Now, we also see the name used often as a girls' name.
