  1. yeah, something funny is going on here.  if the motor's revving up in gear, and the boat's not going, then the prop's not spinning.

scribe or paint a mark across the rubber bushing and the inner prop hub.  put the boat in the water & rev it up in gear.  Check your mark;  if it doesn't line up, then the hub is spun.  The prop shop screwed it up.

If it still lines up, then the hub isn't spun, and you've got a lower unit issue, or else the prop is cavitating.

Cavitation can be caused by prop damage or a foreign object stuck in the diffuser ring (props without diffuser rings are flared on the aft end of the hub).  The prop shop should've fixed any damage.

Don't rev your motor above 1500 RPM or so on the muffs (except as needed to warm up a cold engine).  You are risking thermal runaway.  Without backpressure on the exhaust, the unloaded engine can race uncontrollably, with heated carbon in the cylinders igniting the fuel/air charge.  The key won't turn it off, pulling the plug wires will have no effect.  All you can do is disconnect the fuel line & hope the carbs run dry before your engine becomes an expensive anchor.

  2. Sounds like you busted the shear pin.

  3. If the prop was still spinning fast the boat would be moving. you probably broke something in the lower unit.

  4. Since i answered this already> If the prop spins the boat moves> It has other issues> Might be plugs or electrical or carb> Not much to go on with your discretion>
