Question:

Outboard motor trims down very very slowly?

I recently replaced my tilt/trim motor on my bass boat. The tilt seems to be fine (a little slower than what I would like, but no complaints). However when it gets to the trim down, it is incredibly slow.

Any ideas?

  1. depending on where you live I'm in OHIO we use SAE 30 weight oil (car oil) in our trim systems. you may be low on oil what you are using maybe to thick or you may have air in the lines .... How to bleed system (not hard) make sure your trim unit is full of oil first and the engine is all the way down.... then remove the oil fill cap and run the unit up and down (all the way down) several times keep checking the level of the oil - don't let it run out - what you are doing is letting out the air trapped in you system!

  2. When it gets close to all the way down it is supposed to slow down. Does it go down slow when all the way up?  It could be low on oil or the oil is too thick.
