Air quit working i checked the outside unit and it was froze all pipes insides and the pipes leading from the unit to the house were froze. Looked at the coil inside the house and it is frozen also. I have a split system unit and was wondering if anyone knew what the problem could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. after it thaws you can turn it back on just to keep you through tonight

  2. clean the filters

  3. This is going to require service. It is probably low on freon. Low pressure on the low pressure side of the compressor will cause freezing. Have you had it worked on recently? If moisture is in the lines, mixed with the oil and freon, it can tum acidic and eat the system from the inside out.

If you're lucky, it will be an easy fix.

  4. Turn it off and leave it off over night. Tomorrow, wash the coils both inside and out and change the air filter. Make sure both of the fans are turning and moving plenty of air. Try it again. There is a good chance it will just freeze up again. If it does it probably has a low freon charge. Call a profession at this point-it will be cheaper in the long run.

  5. HVAC Tech.: TURN IT OFF QUICK!!!! You have a multitude of problems. Your only choice at this point in time is to call in professional help. GOOD LUCK      You might want to leave it off over night   then call the tech.
