Question:

Outdoor Coal furnace/heater safe??

Landlord just installed a new outdoor coal furnace as a cheaper way to heat our house we rent. It's about 500ft or less from the front of my house. I just had a baby, and was wondering if anyone can give me facts/experiences on the safety and/or hazards of a coal furnace. I just want to make sure it's safe for my family. And does it usually stink? If so, is the smell bad for you? Thank you!

  1. It's safe but I would have the landlord place carbon monoxide detectors in each room of the house to prevent accident's. It is the law in most states and the unit's should be placed at the level of your beds, not higher as you don't breathe at ceiling level.
