Outdoor Palm tree poked me?

I have a Palm tree outside of my house that I was trimming back. I was placing the fonds I removed in the a trash can and one stuck me. The point of the fond leaf stuck my left hand on the top by the knuckles. I noticed at work that night that my hand was hurting where it had poked me. I opened the cut where the fond point stuck me and puss and a small pointy end of the fond came out of my hand. I cleaned it up with peroxide and didn't think anything of it. The next morning my middle finger feels like it is broken. I cannot bend my finger all the way and it hurts really bad. I am curious if it might have poisoned my joints or without me knowing it I might have broke my finger or something. I need help guys so please some real answers. my hand is swollen and it is close to where the fond point came out.

  1. My friend, how many doctors responded to your question here?  Go see one!

  2. Most likely, you have a serious infection and you should see a doctor for an antibiotic.  If necessary, they may need to debride the wound as well by flushing it with normal saline.

  3. Yup! If you can’t bend your finger you have a serious infection and need oral antibiotics.

As has already been said, it may need debridement as well.

Regardless, you should see a doctor as soon as possible.

If the infection goes past a certain point, you could lose part or your entire finger.

  4. Get to the doctor!! I made the mistake after getting thorn poked of waiting a couple weeks.During which time I was in pain and swollen.3 types of staph infection set in and i had to have a shot in my butt every morning for 10 days. The doctor said if I waited any longer I may have lost my thumb due to the staph spreading to the bone. Go now!!

  5. Offhand I would say you may have a slight infection and an allergy to the plant that poked you, causing a bad inflammation of the joint and nearby tissue that was involved.  No, I doubt it is broken. It's a good thing you got out the pointy end of the frond in your hand, out.  Sounds like the joint is taking the blunt of the allergic reaction/infection and it's definitely worth getting it looked at.  In the meantime, keep it clean, avoid bending and irritating it anymore, and make a Drs. appt.

    Good luck.

PS.. trying some triple antibiotic cream on the site until you get into the Drs.. office is probably a good idea.
