Soon, I will be going to college to study psych/philosophy. While I'm in school i would like to get certified in some outdoors "sports". Some of the things i would like to get certified in are scuba diving, rock climbing, kayaking, and sailing. Does anyone have information on these things and how i can achieve these goals while going to college?

  1. You don't need to be "certified" in any of those, I don't know where you got that idea. Check at your college's Outdoor recreation center, they will have info on the classes that are offered.

  2. Scuba requires PADI certification to fill tanks, and all of these sports are technical by nature, so it's a good idea to take some basic courses.  Your school may offer these through their recreation department.

  3. Where are you going to school? Inquire at that school about recreational activities. Inquire at the national offices for each sport. The British Canoe Union for kayak. The American Canoe Association for kayak. The usual procedure is to take skill courses in a sport and achieve a set level of competency and then attend an instructor certification course. There are many levels of certiication. Each sport has its own standards.

  4. i think you need to get a better understanding of what you want to do unless you didnt word your question correctly.

whether you go to college or not, you can do mostly any one of those things.

scuba diving may require some class, earning a padi certificate. http://www.padi.com/padi/common/dcnr_dis...

rock climbing, im sure you can go anywhere to rock climb, but clim at your own risk. obviously if you want to summit everest, you have to go through some tutorials. you can find some local rock climbing schools by doing a google search.

kayaking, again, anyone can do. purchase one from dunhams, and youre ready to go.

sailing, i really am not sure, you should at least have a boaters certificate, find your local dnr to get information.

all of these are individual tasks, and you can do them whenever you want.
