Outfielder Aaron Cunningham shows optimism ahead of 2012 season – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians’ outfielder Aaron Cunningham is showing some great optimism before the next Major League season as the Indians have recently extended his invitation to their Winter Development Programme which is to encourage players for improving skills.
Indians' top management has also pushed him hard to play his natural game next season without taking extra pressure to be traded soon. The real problem started, when earlier some tabloids reported that Cunningham is in serious trouble and might be traded in the next couple of months.
Later not only this speculation died but the Indians also issued a statement regarding Cunningham’s stay until the 2013 season. Though, it was cleared that Cunningham is staying with Cleveland but somehow his faith in the Indians’ management was decreased.
Cunningham has recently stated in the media regarding those very speculations which now have no truth. He said, “If you have struggles or whatnot with your old team, you can start over. You can become a new player. Your last team might say. You need work in the outfield. When I get to the new team, I don't need work in the outfield, outfielder. I can change it. I can become a new player each step I go. I didn't know that much about the organization. I did see Major League I and Major League II. I've always been told 'just wait for your chance, It's going to come. I really think this is going to be it.”
Cunningham's has been playing well in the recent past starting from his Major League career from the Chicago White Sox platform in 2005. He was drafted in the sixth round playing in the White Sox farm system for two seasons. His game was further improved when he was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks while eventually making up his game in the Oakland Athletics’ roster before going into the San Diego Padres franchise. Minor and Major League are where Cunningham played and got a tremendous amount experience.
Lastly, he arrived in the Indians’ roster last year and was luckily called in the Indians' Winter Development Programme for further improvement. To Cunningham’s credit, a total of 11 players invited to this year, he is the only one who has tasted the Major Leagues with several teams.
