Outfielder Delmon Young signs one-year $5.37 million deal with Minnesota Twins – MLB News
Arbitration avoided as the Minnesota Twins signed a one year deal with outfielder Delmon Young worth $5.37.
Young and the Twins seem satisfied with this latest contractual agreement as the player wanted to remain with the Twins for the next season. It is good to see that the Twins were able to offer something acceptable to Young as he has been a consistent performer
for the team. He is a talented player that the Twins do not want to let go, as he makes a positive impact for the team on the field.
The Twins will be happy that they were able to avoid arbitration while putting this deal together.
"[Going to arbitration] is not ideal for anybody," Twins’ general manager Bill Smith said. "Going to arbitration doesn't mean you don't like each other, it just means you haven't agreed on a salary. In this case, we're very pleased we were able agree on
a salary for the coming season and move on so we can get the focus back on the field."
Last year Young had a tremendous season for the Twins. He managed 112 RBIs hitting .298 with 21 brilliant home-runs. The Twins will be looking for a repeat performance by Young this season.
The Twins will be looking to put in a good performance as Spring Training begins. The team understands the importance of having their line-up healthy and at full strength. The team is desperate for a successful regular season hoping for a possible place
in post-season play. The Twins are a very talented team with some decent depth to their line-up; however it seems that their confidence levels begin to dip in the middle of season. The team will be looking to change things this season as they are hoping players
like Young can turn things around for them.
General Manager Smith seems pleased with the deal for Young. He understands the potential of this tremendous player and the impact that he has on the team as a whole.
It will be interesting to see what type of effect Young will have on the team during Spring Training. If his last years performance is anything to go by, the Twins will not regret signing the player for another year.
Spring Training will allow the Twins with an opportunity to try out different combinations in both their line-up and rotation. Finding the perfect balance is crucial if the team is to have any type of success during the regular season. Only time will tell,
if Young can deliver the same type of performance that he had last year for the Twins, as the regular season is just around the corner.
